Where can I find a Starter Aid for an 5040 Allis-Chalmer diesel?
Has anyone heard of this part?
I'm not sure, but what Mack calls a "starter aid" is simply a can of either, or starting fluid. If it is a can that looks like an oil filter, that is all it is. When you start the engine, it gives it a boost of either, so that it will start in cold temperatures. If that is the case, just give it a 1/2 to 1 second burst of starting fluid from a spray can in cold climes, right into the air intake, and crank it. If your engine has "glow plugs," a small light near the ignition key that says wait to start, Do Not Use Either, it will cause the engine to explode.
