How can I tell if my Power Steering Pump on a 1998 Ford Explorer is going up?
Okay, so I have a 1998 Ford Explorer 2 door V6 4x4.
Recently I have been hearing a noise coming from the engine, it is basically a howling or winding noise. The noise is coincides with the rpm's, meaning if I am sitting at idle it's quite, but what the rpm's are up(speeding up) I hear the noise get louder.
Also, this really only happens when turning into a parking spot, I hear a loud almost grinding noise.
The truck seems to run fine, the steering wheel isn't harder to turn or anything like that. I was told by a person or two they think my power steering pump is going up. The power steering fluid level has been fine for the past couple of weeks, holding steady. There does appear to be some sort of fluid leaking very slowly under the truck, not enough to drip and make a mark on the pavement, but the oil pan appears wet. I will check out exactly what the fluid is after work.
Any idea's on what my problem is would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!
You might have to bleed it. turn full lock right hold and to the left hold .1 or 2 times.
