I'd like to put a high voltage diode inline on a motorcycle sparkplug wire.?
The plug wire will be carrying aprox 75,000 vac @ 250ma that will be produced by a fairbanks morse magneto. I want to exploit the reversal of polarity that occurs with a dual fire harley davidson style magneto and convert it to a single fire mode useing a diode to isolate the spark pulses by polarity.
Wires of this type are available commercially but I would like to make some of my own. I need to know the type and value of the required diode as well as where I could buy it. Thanks.
In order to achieve a 200kV / 1a value could I bundle (parrall or series) a number of lesser value diodes ? I'm thinking specificly of the HV diodes used in microwave ovens.
As you can see by my questions I know just enough about electronics to be dangerous 
yup, your dangerous all right.
OK, that's out of the way, why, why, why, there are companies out there that make a single fire mag, but as far as that goes, why even go to a single fire, the amount of gain you will get is very small compared to the hassle of hooking one of these systems up.
From what I've seen (on dyno's) single fire verses duel fire will only show (maybe) 1 HP gain. A lotta buck for very little bang.
