Why do diesel truck drivers leave their engines idling for long periods?
Is there a legitimate reason why diesel trucks (Not semi tractor trailers) you know the box truck, tow truck, even large work truck, to leave the engine idling when the driver exits the cab? I don't mean in cases where the lights are on for a long time or where the driver is using the AC/heater while parked, I mean I see trucks sitting unoccupied idling for long periods of time.
If there is a legitimate reason for not turning off the diesel engine what is it?
The simplest reason is, it takes more fuel to start a diesel engine then it does to leave it running.
